Native American Tipi

The 5th Art Grade class has been enjoying a unit on many different types of traditional Indigenous homes.  During this Indian Education unit, students learned about and explored the various dwelling designs of the Inuit, Apache, Navajo, Wampanoag, and the Plains people.  The art students learned that some Indigenous homes are meant to be temporary, others are permanant, and some, like the tipi, are portable and meant to be transported and used again in another location.  Froid students watched videos and discussed  the significance of decorated tipis and how they are erected, before decorating and creating their own minirature, and colorful, versions.
